I just wanted to add that the reason the man looked younger and vigorous again is that he resumed his search for his lost sexual organs…i.e.it is not the organs themselves which make him vital but the continuous search itself.

Hear hear. Paul’s summaries are outstanding, and his commentaries aren’t too shabby either. Dude has also been reading all sorts of Bolaño’s shorter work (and a million other things) simultaneously and so has a good bird’s-eye view of the Bolaño world. Run, don’t walk.
